Once the Just Maps Handbook had been drafted, teachers could use it to train their students in participatory mapping. But they also trained their peers and colleagues in a series of cascade trainings.

Each Cascade Training session involved more new teachers in the project activities. It also aimed to test the methodology on a large scale so that it could be adapted and finalised at the end of the project. To achieve this, teachers in Italy, Poland, Spain and Kenya organised training sessions in their own schools, reaching more than 225 teachers.

In September 2026, Irish schools will also join in the effort to involve new teachers by organising their own cascade training sessions.
